Give Room

The Shift That Expands Your Business, Energy, and Impact

“Lead with curiosity. Create space for magic. Grow with grace.”

– Janet Hutchens

When You Think You Have to Know It All

When I first started my business—and for many years (too many years)—I thought I had to know everything.

Or at least pretend I did.

“Oh, sure, I can do that!”

That was my go-to line. Confident on the outside… frantic Google search on the inside.
I’d hustle to figure it out, wasting precious time and—worse—blocking someone on my team from stepping up and shining in their brilliance.

  • Maybe it was the Virgo in me.

  • Maybe the perfectionist.

  • Maybe just good ol’ entrepreneurial control freak mode.

(TRUTH BOMB: Yes. We all do that.)

And you know what? Fake it ‘til you make it absolutely has its place.
Sometimes, you need to step into a bolder version of yourself before you fully feel like ‘Her’.

But there comes a time when faking it becomes holding it all.
And holding it all becomes blocking the brilliance—your own and everyone else’s.

There comes a time to give room.

The Wisdom in Listening

“I never learned a damn thing when I was talking.” – Larry King

That one-liner is a whole masterclass.
Because if you're always talking, you're not listening.
And when you're not listening, you're missing the magic.

I used to think I had to be the one with all the answers. The expert. The teacher. The walking TED Talk.
But over time I’ve learned something far more powerful:

Real leadership isn’t about proving yourself. It’s about creating space.

  • Space for brilliance.

  • Space for new ideas.

  • Space for people to show up fully—and surprise you.

My Dad Was Right (Even If I Didn’t Love It at First)

One of the most powerful things my dad ever told me?

“There will always be someone better than you.”

At the time, I didn’t love it. It felt like a punch to my self-worth.
But now? I see it for what it was: Wisdom.

He wasn’t trying to put me down—he was trying to lift me up.
Because when you stop needing to be the smartest person in the room, you finally have room to grow.

  • To learn.

  • To receive.

  • To expand.

When you surround yourself with people who are more creative, strategic, visionary—or just wired differently—it doesn’t make you small.

It calls you forward.

Your Circle Shapes Your Growth

You’ve probably heard the saying: You’re the average of the five people closest to you.

So let’s pause.
Take a look around.

  • Are the people in your circle inspiring you?

  • Challenging you (in the best way)?

  • Reflecting back your next-level brilliance?

Or are you clinging to being the “go-to” for everyone else… and staying comfortable instead of expansive?

The Create Community Wake-Up Call

In my Master Your Money course, one of my favorite and most revealing exercises is called Create Community.

You take an honest inventory of your current circle and place the people in your life into five key roles—like Way Showers and Confidantes.

You also get to make your “Got to Go” list (and yes, we include loving scripts to say goodbye with grace).

Here’s what’s wild:

Every single woman who’s done this exercise ended up moving people around.
Even the ones they were sure were in the “right” category.

Because when you stop and ask, “How is this person actually contributing to my energy, growth, and brilliance?”—the answers are often surprising.

It’s not always easy. But it’s always freeing and frankly, life changing!

Energy, Confidence, Brilliance, AND Business: It’s All Connected

If someone’s dimming your light, draining your bandwidth, or keeping you from your next level…

It’s not just a personal issue—it’s connected to your business, too.

It doesn’t just affect your personal life—it echoes through your business.
What shows up in your relationships shows up in your results.
Energy leaks in your personal life will always ripple into your business.

  • Your relationships shape your energy.

  • Your energy shapes your confidence.

  • And your confidence shapes everything.

What You Really Need in Your Brilliance Business

If you're building a Brilliance Business (and I know you are), here’s what you truly need:

  • Clients who challenge and elevate your work—not just nod along

  • Collaborators who lovingly push you to expand

  • Team members who shine in their own Zone of Genius

  • Mentors and Expanders who reflect your next level back to you

And maybe most of all?

The courage to give room.

Room for new voices.
Room for intuitive nudges.
Room for aligned growth.
Room for magic you didn’t plan.

Your Invitation to Pause, Listen, and Rise

So yes—share your wisdom.
Own your brilliance.
Stand tall in your knowing.

But also?

  • Pause.

  • Listen.

  • Let someone else shine.

Because being the loudest, fastest, most polished voice in the room might get attention…

But being the most curious, receptive, and willing to give room?

That’s where the real power lives.
That’s where your next level begins.
And that’s where brilliance blooms.

With heart, brilliance, and always a little room for magic,
- Janet
